The Order of Glory (Орден Славы) was established on November 8, 1943, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet. It was awarded exclusively to soldiers, non-commissioned officers of the Red Army, and aviation junior lieutenants for bravery in the face of the enemy.

This particular 3rd Class Order of Glory, numbered 189676, follows the design and prestige of the Tsarist Cross of St. George, awarded sequentially in three classes for repeated acts of valor. Those who received all three classes were honored as Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory, a status granting privileges equivalent to that of Heroes of the Soviet Union.
